چکیده

Users of cochlear implants experience difficulties in listening to music. Improved processing of music signals for hearing implants requires an accurate and robust estimation of the musical pitch. This paper presents a comparative study of two different signal processing strategies for estimating the fundamental frequencies (F0) of almost-periodic input signals. Their performance with various inputs is compared, and implementation issues are discussed to ensure these strategies can be processed in real-time and are compatible with current cochlear implant technology.

Comparison of the high-frequency morpho-syntactic structures of cochlear implant children and children with normal hearing aged 4-6 years

Introduction: Children with cochlear implants experience problems at all language domains, and have more problems in morpho-syntactic skills than others domains. Considering the importance of morphology and syntax in developing of communication skills of children, this study compared the use of high-frequency morpho-syntactic structures among 4-6 years old children with cochlear implants and ty...

The use of fundamental frequency for lexical segmentation in listeners with cochlear implants.

Fundamental frequency (F0) variation is one of a number of acoustic cues normal hearing listeners use for guiding lexical segmentation of degraded speech. This study examined whether F0 contour facilitates lexical segmentation by listeners fitted with cochlear implants (CIs). Lexical boundary error patterns elicited under unaltered and flattened F0 conditions were compared across three groups: ...

Fundamental frequency discrimination and speech perception in noise in cochlear implant simulations.

Increasing the number of channels at low frequencies improves discrimination of fundamental frequency (F0) in cochlear implants (Geurts, L., Wouters, J., 2004. Better place-coding of the fundamental frequency in cochlear implants. J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 115 (2), 844-852). We conducted three experiments to test whether improved F0 discrimination can be translated into increased speech intelligibili...

Relationship between voice and speech perception in children with cochlear implant.

BACKGROUND The use of cochlear implant results in the optimization of speech perception, and, as a consequence in the development of oral language, speech and voice of its users, demonstrating to be one of the most effective and promising technologies to remedy hearing loss. However, little has been studied about the relationship between auditory skills and the voice of children using cochlear ...
